What is National Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month began as “Women’s History Week” on March 7, 1982. However, in 1987, U.S. Congress declared March as National Women’s History Month Americans should join in in commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.

The International Women of Courage Award, presented each March, was established in 2007 by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. She created this award to recognize women honorees who demonstrate exceptional courage, leadership, resourcefulness and willingness to sacrifice for others in advocating for peace, justice, human rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment. Since then, more than 155 women from more than 75 countries have been honored with this outstanding award for women.

All year round, we honor all women who provide global impact, community leadership, raise families, blaze paths and live their own truth. Thank you to all women in all walks of life, and happy National Women’s History Month!
