Look at you; you made it to 2022!

When deciding on the perfect New Year’s resolution, consider taking things day-by-day. The past couple of years have taught us how we can’t take a single second for granted with family and friends, which is a lesson we can carry into the new year.

By taking life day-by-day, you may realize that many days have been designated “national days” to celebrate in fun and unique ways daily in addition to the more well-known holidays. What better way to enjoy the year than by celebrating holidays throughout the year? Making every day special one way or another is a wonderful way to boost morale and keep a positive attitude throughout the home and workplace. The month of January is hosting some of the craziest and delightful holidays that you may not have heard of.

Days to celebrate the first month of 2022

  • New Year’s Day (January 1, 2022) - It is finally here, the first day of the new year which  represents optimism, opportunity and hope. This is also a day some begin resolutions. Need help with coming up with an idea? Focus on your mental or physical health to learn how staying positive and active can help start off the new year on the right foot. Check out these health tips for more ways to start the new year off strong!

  • National Apricot Day (January 9, 2022) – When a new year begins, many take it upon themselves to try something new. An apricot is a fruit that may be new to some but is the perfect healthy snack for you and your family. Try dried apricots for a sweet and savory treat after lunch or dinner instead of grabbing a piece of chocolate.

  • National Gluten-Free Day (January 13, 2022) – For those who suffer from gluten–intolerance, you now have a day to celebrate just that! National Gluten-Free Day is a day full of anything but gluten. Take this as a challenge to stay away from wheat and instead grab a salad for lunch or make a protein and rice dish for dinner. Do you have a sweet tooth? You can find many gluten-free dessert recipes online to satisfy your sweet craving while also staying away from gluten.

  • National Nothing Day (January 16, 2022) - Stop. Drop. And do nothing. Even though you may be on day 16 of your new year’s resolution, today is the day to take a break, because this day is all about doing nothing at all. Use this as a chance to take a nap and relax.

  • National Popcorn Day (January 19, 2022) - Did you know that Indiana is just one of 12 states in the Corn Belt? If not, you know now! The U.S. consumes and grows most of the world’s popcorn. The Corn Belt states grow most of the popcorn that is produced. Indiana is only slightly behind the number one leading popcorn producer, Nebraska. At Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, the leading insurer of Indiana farms, we understand that a lot goes into growing and producing popcorn. So, celebrate this day by eating a bowl or two!

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 20, 2022) - On the third Monday of January, we annually observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We observe Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy and his impact as a leader in the civil rights movement. So, let us take time to reflect on the need for more inclusion and diversity every day. How can you make the world more inclusive, understanding and kind? Because this day is so important to our country, many businesses and schools are closed to observe this holiday.

  • National Spouses Day (January 26, 2022) - For all you married adults out there, January 26 is the day to be thankful and show your gratitude for your spouse. Make dinner together, take a walk or share memories from years that looked a bit different than 2021. No matter what you do, make it a day for the two of you to be thankful for having each other by your side.

  • National Eat Brussels Sprouts Day (January 31, 2022) – The last day of January is dedicated to a leafy green vegetable that has developed a bad reputation over the years…Brussels sprouts! Not only are Brussels sprouts full of healthy vitamins, but they pair well with any main dish as a side option. Roast, sauté, grill or eat them raw in a salad on this day to celebrate this vitamin-filled vegetable. Add your favorite spices, olive oils or bacon to enhance the flavor of the green. Make it a fun side dish that will have your family saying yes to Brussels sprouts.

Celebrate making it to 2022 and find time to cherish everyday celebrations, no matter the occasion.
